The Port Erin Hospice Shop enjoys a high profile location - in Orchard Walk, opposite Shoprite and blessed with use of the large car park for all Orchard Walk shoppers.

Port Erin, with its landlocked harbour - Bradda Head to the North and the Mull Peninsula to the South - was originally a fishing village and now boasts a population of approximately 3,400 and 1,400 dwellings. The name Port Erin is derived from the Manx Purt Iron or " Irish Port " as this was the nearest Manx port to Ireland .

Eventual closure of the Port St. Mary shop led Share the Care directors to lease a double unit in Port Erin in 1995. Over the years Hospice's Port Erin shop has become an important part of the Town, with a continuous stream of customers each day.

Opening hours are - Monday to Saturday 10:00 am to 4: 30 pm. Tel: 835575. This busy shop has a quick turnover and is always on the look out for Clothes, Bric-a-Brac and furniture. If you have anything to donate it will be much appreciated - please be kind enough to take it along to the shop or telephone the Douglas office on 01624 61 50 55.

The Shop Manager is Brenda Kneale, who works long hours ensuring the business runs smoothly. Brenda's deputy is Margaret Anderson together with many of the original shop volunteers still assisting on a regular basis.

Brenda herself is a talented needlewoman and she puts this to good effect by taking some of the better donated dolls, dressing them in delightful outfits to be raffled at the shop. In this way Brenda has added considerably to the annual shop income and to the delight of the children who eventually receive them.
