In September 2006 Onchan Hospice Shop moved to 35 Main Road; opening hours are - Mondays 1-4pm and Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 4:00 pm.

The once tiny village of Onchan has grown in the past thirty years into the second largest centre of population on the Island, with a population of 8,700, Onchan is now principally a dormitory village and home to thousands who work in and around the Douglas area.

The Volunteer Hospice Shop Manager is Marilyn Todd, who has managed the Onchan business since it originally opened at No. 2 Main Road, with another committed Volunteer, Pam Colvin maintaining the window presentation on a weekly basis. Thanks to the owner of the premises, Mrs Faragher who made every effort to make life comfortable for the volunteers, the business progressed to the extent that it was necessary to seek larger premises.

In consequence the Directors took the opportunity to take over the lease of 35 Main Road, Onchan. This spacious shop with a large display area, sorting room at the rear and large storage facility, is owned by Onchan Commissioners. Historically the shop was the Pharmacy business of Richard Corkhill, followed by Lloyds Pharmacy. Adjacent to Robinson's Fruit, Flower and Vegetable Store, the Hospice Shop is continuing to be a popular venue for both Onchan and “out of town” shoppers. Most of the volunteers are familiar faces having served or sorted in the shop for many years and they continue to look forward to welcoming old and new clients to see the large array of clothes for men, women and children together with an extensive display of bric-a-brac and books. A definite must for a visit when calling at Onchan.

There is a page recording the new premises opening ceremony - Friday 8th September 2006

As part of Hospice Shops' 20th Birthday year, His Excellency Vice Admiral Sir Paul Haddacks KCB, and Lady Haddacks visited our Onchan Shop on Tuesday 9th September 2008. A separate page of photographs records their visit.

The Shop telephone number is: 01624 679 904 - so if you have something you no longer need and think the Hospice Shop could sell it, you could take it along direct to the shop or ring the Douglas office 01624 61 50 55 to arrange for collection.
