Douglas Hospice Shop is located at 76 Bucks Road, Douglas - only a few hundred yards from Tynwald and the House of Keys, the seat of Government at the top of Prospect Hill. Bucks Road is busy shopping street on the fringe of a highly populated area sometimes referred to as “Flatland.”

Douglas is the Island 's Capital, home of Government and has been since the House of Keys moved from Castletown in the latter half of the 1800s. Five hundred years ago Douglas was merely a village, small by any standards but rapidly expanded in the Victorian era and - after a few pauses for breath - has now reached a population estimated to be in the region of 26,000.

Hospice Shop opening hours are - Monday to Saturday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Tel: 679905 If you have something you no longer need and think the Hospice Shop could sell it, you could take it along direct to the shop or ring the Douglas office 01624 61 50 55.

The Volunteer Shop Manager is Florence Glover, who has managed the shop for a number of years and gives time on a daily basis to ensure all aspects of the shop are running smoothly. The window is always an attractive asset thanks to the weekly efforts and a careful eye for special items by Volunteer Ann Bruce.

Realizing the importance of this income to Hospice, the Scholl Foundation continued its financial support, providing an opportunity for the Charity to purchase 76 Bucks Road, Douglas in 1994. After being open for ten years the entire shop was redesigned, renovated and re-opened on Thursday 20th October 2005. There is a page recording this very special day.

This extensive modernization and refurbishment project has provided a comfortable venue for the volunteers to continue their work. The attractive and spacious sales areas are a just reward for the many longstanding and valued customers who have supported the Douglas Shop from it's inception.

The ground floor accommodates bric-a-brac; ladies and some children's clothes; children's toys and games; books. On the first floor you will find a large array of all sizes of children's clothes, bedding, shoes and gents clothes.

There is no doubt that this has been a worthwhile effort for everyone and certainly for Hospice with the increased income since the re-opening.
