Following on from the Hospice Shops news in the Spring newsletter when we announced our proposed move of the Admin and eBay office and the Saturday Furniture Sales we have had a very busy summer. An army of volunteers and local tradesmen worked wonders in getting the new premises ready. Lots of re-cycling of materials, painting and cleaning saw the new warehouse and offices ready to move into.
We were extremely lucky that a local office donated desks and filing cabinets so Admin and eBay offices were the first to move during the TT weeks. We continued the Saturday Furniture Sales at Allan Street for the following few weeks, but these have now moved up to the new warehouse.
All the staff and van drivers love their new premises and the day to day running of the whole operation has benefited, as well as a huge saving on the running costs of only one building instead of three.

The Saturday Furniture Sales have also been a huge success with the move. Each Saturday the queue starts as least 20 minutes before we open the doors at 1.00pm and it is lovely to see all our old Allan Street regulars and lots of new friends and supporters. The car park is constantly filling up until we close at 4.00pm. All the customers comment on how nicely the furniture is now set out and the takings are certainly showing the increase in customers and sales.
We held our first Saturday Furniture sale at Unit 14 on Saturday 29 August and it was a great success. We were delighted to see lots of the old regulars from Allan Street, lots of new faces and many of our volunteers. All left with very positive comments about the unit and we achieved an amazing £2,600. A big thanks to all the team for getting the Unit ready to trade. We have taken receipts over £2,000 each Saturday. The average sale at Allan Street was just over £1,000.
All of this would not be possible without the tremendous support from the general public who not only donate such wonderful items of furniture, but visit us each Saturday to purchase these items. So a huge thank you for your continuing support of Hospice Shops and Furniture Showrooms.
We were delighted that Margaret Hodge, Chairman of Braddan Commissioners, who collectively have been very helpful and supportive with our move, joined the staff and volunteers for homemade cakes and tea to officially cut the ribbon and announce the move. If you haven’t visited us yet get please come along.
