Our new Fancy Dress & Vintage Clothing Shop - the seventh Hospice Shop - opened Thursday 19th June at 78 Bucks Road, next door to the Hospice Shop, 76 Bucks Road, Douglas. What used to be known as our Prop Shop was located above the Saleroom in Allan Street and so popular it had to move to larger premises - much larger premises.

No 78 Bucks Road, next door to the existing shop, had become vacant and the lease acquired. Renovation and decoration work was necessary but, with a lot of push and shove and much hard work by staff and volunteers the opening day came.

There is a selection of photographs on another page illustrating the opening of the seventh Hospice Shop.

Steve Colley opened the Shop

Steve Colley, world-famous Manx and World Trials Bike Champion, performed the opening ceremony flanked by Shops staff and Volunteers dressed in some of the clothes and outfits on sale.

Terry Groves, Hospice Shops Chairman, made a short speech of welcome and thanks to Steve Colley, then acknowledging all the hard work to get the Shop open and looking so very friendly and cheerful. The tape being cut, the public flocked in and business was underway.

Steve is no stranger to Hospice; a few Christmases ago he took his GasGas trials bike up to the Day Care Centre in St. Bridget's to the delight of a full house of Day Care patients. Those that could sat on his bike for a tutorial on trials biking! A memorable afternoon.

There's an amazing selection of fancy dress and vintage outfits from many eras, way-out and way-in, 1920s 1940s 1950s 1960s, even earlier if you want and right up-to-date including the “Prom” outfits - all the rage among schools socialites and gap-yearites. Holding a themed party? Make 78 Bucks Road your first stop.

A very special thanks to Christine Jones - our new Fancy Dress Shop Manager for all her hard work in getting the shop ready for opening - and another big thanks to Keeley Wilson and Joe Dooley from the Hospice Shops office who put in a lot of extra hours to help Christine. Last but not least we are indebted to Tracy Bedford for contacting Steve Colley and asking if he would be our Fancy Dress shop opening day celebrity. He came along - literally in the few hours he was on the Island in between his numerous engagements.

Shop opening hours are: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
10:00 am 'til 1:00 pm - Fridays and Saturdays 10:00 am 'til 4:00 pm.
